EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Severe weather moved through El Paso County Friday afternoon, which included a tornado and hail.

A family in Peyton took cover as the tornado hit their house or close to it. They weren’t hurt, but there was extensive damage. A GoFundMe page was set up to help with repairs.

Tammy Davis was watching her grandchildren when it hit, she didn’t know what was going on at first.

“The next thing you know it sounded like a bomb going off in the back yard like an explosion,” Davis said.

Then she realized what was happening.

“I watched it blow out my French doors in my bedroom and we headed for the basement,” Davis said.

When the storm quieted down, they went upstairs.

“The wall was separated from the house a good 6-8 inches,” Davis said.

Tammy called family to come help them get the house closed off. They used tarps and boards to prevent further damage from wet weather.

“Now I could go cry for a few minutes … ‘I’m alive, I’m so happy,’ but in that moment you’re just thinking, ‘What do we do, how do we get through this?’ Make sure you grab your phone, you’re safe and wait until it’s done,” Davis said.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is reporting there was damage reported just northeast of Falcon and southwest of Peyton. As of 7:30 p.m., there were no reported injuries.

Multiple videos sent in by viewers show the tornado in the area of Judge Orr Road and Curtis Road at about 4:13 p.m. The area is northeast of Colorado Springs.
