SIMPSONVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Cleanup is underway after trees and power lines were ripped from the ground when an EF1 tornado touched down in Simpsonville.

The storm raged through on Sunday night doing serious damage to mailboxes, cars and homes as it passed.

Homeowners who were right in the middle of it all tell 7News it was a scary night.

“I wrapped my hands around the rail thinking I didn’t know what was going on and then you heard a tree down at that blue house just come down. It was like dominoes it was like 4-5 booms we heard last night,” said Bud Jackson.

National Weather Service teams surveyed the damage for most of Monday before determining late in the afternoon that an EF1 tornado with 100 mile winds hit the area.

The NWS says the tornado’s path was around 6.8 miles long with a maximum width of around 100 yards.

Nobody was hurt in the tornado.
