EF-0 tornado touches down in Claiborne County on Halloween

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. — The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in the Tazewell area of Claiborne County on Thursday.

According to the Claiborne County Office of Emergency Management Homeland Security, the NWS sent a team to the area on Friday to survey the damage. The team determined a tornado with maximum winds of 60-80 miles per hour touched down in the Wilson Hurst Road area.

The NWS said the 80 miles per hour winds were found to be near the Carter Lane area. The tornado was estimated to be a maximum of 200 yards wide and had a traveled for 1.5 miles.

The Claiborne County government office said there were no injuries from the tornado.

The Knoxville Police Department reported the same storm system that moved through our area resulted in a death in Knox County after a tree fell on a vehicle.
