Images of a tornado in South Florida lit up social media, as parts of the region experienced heavy rain, flooding, lighting and thunderstorms early Tuesday evening.

NBC 6 reporter Dan Krauth spotted the funnel cloud west from Florida’s Turnpike near Okeechobee.

The funnel cloud report was then upgraded to a tornado that occurred at around 6 p.m. over the Everglades, southwest of Griffin Road and west of Pines Boulevard, according to NBC 6 meteorologist John Morales.

The area is unpopulated and there were no damages that were observed.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning hit widespread parts of South Florida as a flood advisory was issued for northern Miami-Dade County. According to the National Weather Service, there was flooding along I-95 as commuters drove home during rush hour.
