NWS: Tornado touched down in Bedford County around 4 a.m.

BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) — The National Weather Service confirms an EF-0 tornado touched down in Bedford County on Friday.

According to the National Weather Service EF-0 means winds speeds were between 65 – 85 mph.

There would be light damage; peels surface of some roofs, some damage to gutters or siding, branches broken off trees, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

The NWS said a tornado touched down for two minutes at 4:04 a.m. Friday in Moneta.

The tornado was 100 yards wide and 0.3 miles long.

It happened after a thunderstorm progressed across portions of Smith Mountain Lake.

The NWS said it was able to uproot and snap trees, while producing minor damage to houses.

There were no injuries.
