Five tornadoes confirmed from July 5th storms

WESTERN WISCONSIN (WEAU) –The storms on Tuesday, July 5th caused widespread wind damage across the region and after damage assessments several tornadoes were confirmed.

Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings were in effect through the late evening due to the strong thunderstorms pushing through the area.

The National Weather Service offices in both the Twin Cities and La Crosse were out with damage assessment crews Wednesday and after surveying the damage the following tornadoes were confirmed…

The following information is courtesy of the National Weather Service Twin Cities:

PIERCE COUNTY — At approximately 8:35 PM Tuesday an EF-0 tornado touched down just north of Nugget Lake. Maximum wind speeds were 70-80 miles per hour. The path length was 1/3 mile. The storm also produced widespread downburst winds across a broad area of Pierce County with winds estimated at 70-80 mph.

PEPIN COUNTY — At approximately 8:45 PM Tuesday an EF-1 tornado touched down in Central Pepin County one mile south of Porcupine and traveled a path of 3.3 miles to a few miles north-northeast of Ella. Maximum wind speeds are estimated around 90 mph. This storm also produced downburst winds across a broad area of Pepin County with winds roughly 70-80 mph.

The following information is courtesy of the National Weather Service La Crosse:

BUFFALO COUNTY — At approximately 9:10 PM an EF-1 tornado touched down roughly two miles NNW of Cream and traveled about 1/2 mile. Winds are estimated to 100 mph damaging a house and outbuildings. Pieces of the outbuilding were thrown across a field.

BUFFALO COUNTY — At approximately 9:13 PM an EF-1 tornado touched down roughly two miles NNW of Waumandee with peak winds estimated at 105 mph. The tornado only traveled 1/2 mile but took the second floor of a hunting structure off.

VERNON COUNTY — At approximately 10:31 pm an EF-0 tornado touched down one mile west of Retreat and traveled a mile and a half. Numerous trees were down and corn flattened due to the combination of the 85 mph estimated peak winds from the tornado and straight line winds estimated to 80 mph.

No injuries were reported with the storms earlier this week.
