East Moline, Ill. (KWQC)– Some churches in East Moline are partnering with Ides, a disaster relief organization, to give sheds to 10 residents impacted by the tornado nearly three months ago.

An EF-2 tornado hit East Moline and Hampton in March, blowing away roofs and trees, leaving debris everywhere.

Since then several events have raised money for the victims including a Facebook page that helped many families recover lost items.

Now these families are receiving a shed kit from volunteers over the next two days, and victims are thankful for the gift.

Donna Morford lives on the land she grew up on but now she has to rebuild on her family’s land.

“Well the home was shifted off the foundation and so we had to of course, well it was totaled. Yesterday they uh demo-ed it and that but it goes back. I was born in the front room and so was my dad and his dad so there’s a lot of history,” said Morford.

Despite losing her home she is optimistic, saying she can continue her family history on the land in a new home.

“When the demo is all done and we have it all cleared away and that then you can think on that and picture what is to come next,” said Morford.

Just down the road, Kevin Ingalls says his life is finally returning to normal after the storm torn it apart.

“We had a little damage to the house the roof and then we lost two of our garage that we had completely lost. Things have been tough but a lot of people have helped and made it a whole lot easier and things are getting together,” said Ingalls

Today they each got a little bit of help as church volunteers dropped off new sheds.

Kit Jentis, DART Coordinator for IDES, says they wanted to give out sheds as a way for these families to finally have a place to keep their personal items safe.

“We are just trying to help with some storage buildings to help with the families so they have some place to store their belongings as they are waiting to get their houses re-built,” said Jentis.

Church members say they wanted to help these families out because they felt it was the right thing to do.

Volunteers and organizers will go to each home Saturday and put the sheds together. If you want to volunteer the group is meeting at Wildwood Baptist Church in East Moline at 7 a.m.
