(WWBT) –

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management received word this week that FEMA would not be providing any aid to the commonwealth.

FEMA previously denied Virginia’s request for aid from the February tornadoes, but the state appealed. However, they are only allowed one appeal, so this decision is now final.

When FEMA first denied federal dollars, it sent a letter to the governor saying the damage from the Feb, 24 tornadoes “was not of such severity and magnitude as to be beyond the capabilities of the commonwealth, affected local governments and voluntary agencies.”

Gov. Terry McAuliffe had asked for the help for Appomattox, Essex and Sussex counties.
