Two tornadoes confirmed in ENC, EF-1 & EF-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) –

EF-1: Merrimon

During a storm survey on Saturday, the National Weather Service out of Newport confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Carteret County. The tornado touched down around 9:16 pm on Thursday in Merrimon snapping a number of pine trees. The estimated wind speed with this tornado was between 90 and 100 mph. It was on the ground for only a brief moment but resulted in a damage path 25 yards wide and less than a quarter of a mile long. This is the second confirmed tornado relating to the remnant circulation of Sally.

EF-0: Lowland

The National Weather Service out of Newport confirmed another tornado, an EF-0 that came through Pamlico County very early Friday morning. The damage occurred at around 1:33 am about 3.5 miles southwest of Lowland. The survey also revealed maximum wind speeds reached 70 mph with a path length of a tenth of a mile. WITN meteorologists were on air during the time of this tornado warning as the circulation continued north of the Pamlico River and into Mainland Hyde County. No further damage has been reported at this time. A number of tornado warnings were issued Thursday evening and early Friday morning as the remnant circulation from Sally moved across ENC.
