SAVANNAH, Ga. —
The National Weather Service confirms the tornado on Wilmington and Whitemarsh Island and ruled it as an EF 1 on the tornado F scale.

A strong storm rolled into the area around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Chatham, Beaufort, and Jasper counties just before 5 p.m.

The storm packed heavy rain and powerful winds that damaged buildings and flipped at least one boat at the Savannah Yacht Club. Officials say there were also some minor injuries.

No siren sounded with the storms, and Chatham Emergency Management later tweeted that there was no siren because a server was offline for maintenance.

The National Weather Service will be surveying the damage to determine if it was in fact a tornado that came through the area and if so, how strong it was.
