The National Weather Service in St. Louis has confirmed a EF-1 tornado touched down in eastern Madison County Sunday night.

The tornado path continued from just south of Marquand into portions of Bollinger County.

The maximum width of the tornado was one-third of a mile with winds from 73 to 110 mph.

Although there was not even a severe thunderstorm warning in Madison County, Sheriff Katy McCutcheon said, at 9:43 p.m., Sunday, she went to investigate a Facebook report of a tornado off of County Road 310 south and east of Marquand. The sheriff also said at 9:31 p.m., Madison County’s Missouri Department of Conservation Agent Clayton Lewis located trees down on Route DD.

The sheriff said the damage included (but was not limited to) the destruction of two sheds and a broken vehicle windshield on private property off of Route DD. There was a barn with a roof torn off it near County Road 310. Also a carport was twisted and destroyed in the same area.

The Madison County Road and Bridge crew was able to cut away the trees and clear County Road 310 Sunday night, while MoDOT did the same on Route DD.

NWS preliminary reports indicate another tornado, an EF-0, also touched down seven miles east/northeast of Steelville Sunday with maximum winds of 85 mph.
