NWS Confirms Tornado Touched Down Near Atwater Friday Night

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in central Minnesota Friday evening.

According to the NWS storm report, the EF0 tornado started near Atwater and traveled east 11.2 miles along Highway 12. Its path concluded just northwest of Litchfield.

The NWS said some structural damage occurred, but the tornado mostly left damaged trees in its wake.

The max wind speed of the twister was 80 mph, according to NWS.

Much of western and central Minnesota saw severe weather Friday night as a storm front moved through the area. A tornado warning was issued for Kanidyohi County, where Atwater is located, as well as Meeker County.
