JOHANNESBURG – A minor tornado hit Ennerdale, in southern Johannesburg on Monday evening.

The twister touched down between 6pm and 7pm, leaving one person injured and damaging over 50 houses.

Johannesburg Emergency Services said many houses suffered damaged roofs.

Spokesman Robert Mulaudzi urged residents to report anyone missing or injured to the authorities.

He said officials will remain on high alert and will be back on the scene on Tuesday morning for further assessment.

In July, several homes and businesses were damaged when a tornado tore through the Magaliesburg and Tembisa, North East of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg has been hit by poor weather over the last week.

Last Wednesday, flash floods hit most of the north and east of the city resulting in six people being killed.
