Members of the Villages Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 5 will be going out into the community to practice what they will do in an actual disaster.

The team will carry out a simulated response to a tornado touching down in two areas of The Villages. Members will be called at home Saturday morning, and will respond to their neighborhood meeting points. Command Posts will be set up at Pimlico and Truman recreation centers, and then responders will be sent to the mock impacted locations.

This training event will allow the team to test its response procedures, communications systems, and field operations protocols.

“So if you see groups of people in hard hats and vests that say CERT, don’t panic. It is just your friends and neighbors, who are volunteering their Saturday morning, preparing for something they hope will never happen,” said CERT spokeswoman Liza Walters.
