Two EF-1 tornadoes confirmed in NW Minnesota

Fosston, MN (KFGO) – The National Weather Service has confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in several northwest Minnesota Counties Sunday night.

The first had an estimated peak wind of 110 MPH with a path 100 yards wide and 16 miles long. The tornado first touched down nine miles SW of Winger around 11:30 p.m. and lifted 16 minutes later five miles WNW of Fosston.

Several barns, shed, outbuilding, roofs, and trees were damaged. Some trees snapped at the trunk and others were uprooted. Multiple grain bins were destroyed, some were even tossed 100-200 yards.

The second tornado touched down around 11:50 p.m., three miles NNE of Fosston and ended nine miles NNE of Leonard around 12:10 a.m. Monday. This tornado had a peak wind of 100 MPH with a path 26 miles long and 200 yards wide.

Sunflower crop south of Pine Lake was badly damaged. On the NE shores of Pine Lake, campers and pontoons were tossed or rolled. One pontoon was tossed 100 yards onto shore. Many cabins were damaged and over 200 trees were damaged, snapped or destroyed.
