Tornado touches down near Douglas

A tornado touched down south of Douglas on Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.

Weather spotters confirmed a tornado 11 miles south of Douglas, moving southeast at 35 mph, around 4 p.m., according to a National Weather Service report. The tornado was later seen near Esterbrook and Esterbrook Campground.

A tornado warning was in effect for southeastern Converse County, including parts of Interstate 25. The thunderstorm that resulted in the tornado was expected to pass over rural parts of northern Platte County.

The National Weather Service also issued a tornado watch for several central and eastern Wyoming counties including Natrona, Campbell, Laramie, Platte and Niobrara. That watch was in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday.
