LARAMIE, Wyo. Some minor damage reports have filtered in but Laramie, Wyoming, for the most part, dodged a bullet when a stunning and powerful tornado churned through the outskirts of town Wednesday evening.

The twister took its time and met with a few “oohs” and “ahhs” along its path.

Aaron Voos saw the twister touch down north of Laramie while driving home with his 6-year-old son. He called his wife who was at home with their 11-year-old son and told them to drive away.

Voos admits the usual advice is to go to the basement but he says the tornado was moving so slowly, they had plenty of time to meet him roadside a few miles away.

The family and several neighbors watched the tornado spin across a rolling prairie and into the mountains, missing their house by less than a mile.

Sheriff’s officials say a couple of homes were damaged, but no injuries were reported.
