There was a brief touchdown of a tornado early Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service and Dutchess County Emergency Management officials confirmed Thursday.

It touched down in the Town of Wappinger at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, just as a Tornado Warning was issued. It also prompted a Tornado Warning in parts of Fairfield County in Connecticut.

The tornado path began near the intersection of Maloney Road and Route 376, the National Weather Service said. The tornado traveled due east along and just north of Maloney Road for about 1.25 miles before dissipating.

Damage included numerous snapped hardwood and softwood trees and the roof lifted off a shed. There were no injuries or major destruction as a result of the tornado.
