Severe storms brought damaging winds and large hail as they blew through north-central Oklahoma on Thursday afternoon.

Residents near Kingfisher reported damage to vehicles from tennis ball-sized hail. Photos posted on social media showed rear windshields with large holes and hailstones littering the ground.

The same storm system moved east toward Stillwater, and a tornado warning was issued for Payne County. In Coyle, fire department officials reported softball–sized hail.

Photos posted on Coyle High School’s Twitter page showed hail damage to a school building and to vehicles, but there were no reported injuries.

As the storm continued to track through Stillwater, school officials brought buses filled with students back to their schools to shelter in place. The tornado warning was allowed to expire as the storm moved east.

There were reports of one tornado forming near Perkins, but no damage had been reported as of Thursday afternoon. A reported tornado in Owasso, in Rogers County, damaged buildings.

Storms continued to form in western Oklahoma and a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of Custer County about 4:20 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for much of north-central and eastern Oklahoma and is set to expire at 9 p.m.
